Accessibility statement.
Last updated September 23, 2026
Milra is built to support students in their learning, and accessibility is central to that mission. We believe that every student, including students with disabilities, should have equal access to study tools. This statement describes our current accessibility posture, our ongoing work, and our known limitations.
Pre-release beta status
Milra's desktop applications for macOS and Windows are currently unsigned pre-release beta software. We are actively developing the product and making rapid architectural changes. Because the software is in early beta, full accessibility audits have not yet been completed across all platforms, and we want to be completely honest about where the apps stand today.
Known gaps and areas in progress
We do not want to overclaim compliance that has not been independently verified. Here are the primary accessibility gaps we are actively addressing:
- Screen-reader support: Full compatibility with screen readers such as VoiceOver on macOS and NVDA or JAWS on Windows is currently in progress. Some interface elements, dynamic transcript streams, and interactive controls may not yet announce status or labels correctly.
- Keyboard navigation: While primary workflows can be activated via standard shortcuts, comprehensive keyboard focus traps, logical tab ordering across complex views, and visible focus indicators throughout all desktop panels are still being refined.
- Audio controls: Captions and playback speed controls for recorded audio are in active development.
We are prioritizing these improvements in upcoming beta releases to ensure our desktop and mobile experiences meet modern accessibility benchmarks, including the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA.
Legal frameworks and exemptions
Milra is operated from Ontario, Canada, and serves students across North America. Different legal frameworks govern digital accessibility in these jurisdictions:
- Ontario (AODA): The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation establish accessibility obligations for organizations in Ontario. The AODA includes specific exemptions and simplified reporting standards for small private organizations with fewer than 50 employees, which currently apply to Milra at its present size. However, our organizational goal is full compliance with AODA web and software accessibility requirements, regardless of any small-business exemption.
- United States (ADA Title III): In the United States, Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in places of public accommodation. Unlike certain Canadian regulations, Title III of the ADA contains no small-business exemption based on company size or employee count. United States accessibility obligations apply to digital services regardless of company size, and we design our software with those nationwide standards in mind.
